Get a Free QuoteA new driveway is one of the most impactful upgrades you can make to your home — it lifts kerb appeal, adds off-road parking and can genuinely increase the value of your property. Whether you're replacing a tired, cracked concrete drive or creating parking where there was none, JP Garden Maintenance installs quality driveways for homeowners right across Oxfordshire, from our core South Oxfordshire base out to Oxford, Banbury, Bicester, Witney and beyond.
We handle the full job from excavation and sub-base preparation through to the finished surface — laying to the correct falls so water drains away properly, fitting solid edge restraints and finishing every edge neatly. Every driveway is built on a properly compacted foundation, because a driveway is only ever as good as the groundwork underneath it. We only proceed once you've approved a clear, fixed price.
There's no single "best" driveway — the right choice depends on your budget, the style of your home, how the drive is used and whether you want a permeable surface. Here's an honest breakdown of the most popular driveway surfaces we install in Oxfordshire, with the advantages and drawbacks of each to help you decide.
Small clay or concrete blocks laid in patterns such as herringbone, basketweave or stretcher bond. The most popular all-round driveway surface in the UK.
Best for: homeowners who want a classic, repairable finish with plenty of design choice.
Natural aggregate mixed with a clear resin and trowelled onto a solid base to create a smooth, seamless, gap-free surface.
Best for: a modern, low-maintenance look and easy access underfoot.
Decorative stone laid over a membrane and compacted sub-base, held in place with firm edging.
Best for: longer or rural drives and budget-conscious projects.
A poured and rolled bituminous surface, ideal for larger areas and long driveways.
Best for: large drives where value and a smooth finish matter most.
A single poured concrete slab stamped and coloured to mimic block paving, stone or slate.
Best for: a decorative, joint-free finish that stays weed-free.
Granite or sandstone setts laid by hand — a premium, characterful surface often used on period properties.
Best for: character properties where looks and longevity come first.
Since 2008, laying a new impermeable driveway of more than 5m² that drains directly onto the public road requires planning permission. The simplest way to avoid this is to choose a permeable surface — such as gravel, resin-bound or permeable block paving — or to direct rainwater to a soakaway or border within your own boundary. We build proper drainage into every driveway as standard and will always advise on the most straightforward, compliant option for your property.
Not every driveway needs replacing. Sunken blocks, cracked bays, loose or weedy jointing and failed edging are common in Oxfordshire's varied ground conditions, and can often be put right for a fraction of the cost of a full rebuild. We carry out re-laying, re-sanding, re-pointing, block replacement and edge repairs, restoring both the appearance and safety of your existing drive.
We install driveways right across the county, and every town brings its own considerations.
Costs vary with the material chosen and the amount of groundwork needed, so every driveway is priced individually. As a rough guide: gravel typically starts from around £40–£70 per m², tarmac £50–£80 per m², block paving £70–£130 per m², pattern-imprinted concrete £90–£130 per m², and resin-bound £90–£140 per m². Existing surface removal, disposal and any drainage work are factored in separately. We'll always confirm an exact, fixed price before any work starts.
Many driveway projects are completed alongside other outdoor work. If you're also looking at outdoor living space, see our dedicated patios page, and many drives are finished off with new boundary fencing. For a complete transformation, take a look at our garden landscaping service — we're happy to quote everything as a single combined project.
